Roxton Congregational Chapel
Harvest Events
We would like to thank all those who came to our harvest events. It was especially nice to welcome those who had not been to the Chapel Harvest Service before. The Chapel was beautifully decorated again this year with food and flowers kindly donated.
The display remained in place for the start of the Harvest Coffee Morning, giving more people the opportunity to enjoy it,
and appreciate the efforts of all involved. The church donated non perishable items to a local food bank, with other items
being sold at the coffee morning. If you were unable to attend these events, please do try to get to some of our other services and events. The support of local residents is very much appreciated and essential so that Roxon can keep its Chapel.
Chapel Open Day
We would like to thank all those who came to our open day on Saturday 22nd June.
The day was well attended and it was great to welcome everyone, including some who had never been before.
We were fortunate to have a fine dry day enabling our visitors to have their refreshments in the garden and brows our stalls.
It was good to see people taking the opportunity support this special place while catching up with friends and neighbours. We look forward to your valued support our future events.
Please also remember everyone is most welcome to our Sunday services, the very reason the Chapel is here.
Chapel Improvements
Those who often attend events at the Chapel will have noticed our new path, laid during June this year.
We have also had a ceiling repaired. In addition to these, the external repainting of the doors and windows
has now been completed. Please remember that all the work has had to be organised by those officials of the Church
who freely give their time. We do hope that as many of you as possible will attend the events at the chapel, see
and appreciate the work that has been done, and thereby help Roxton keep it’s chapel.
Thank you
Joyce, Richard, Louise & family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, phone calls, letters
and the many cards which have been a great comfort.
The family also wish to thank all who took part in, and attended the thanksgiving service for Bernard's life
and for the donations made in his memory. The service was very fitting for Bernard, acknowledging his contribution
to the life of the village and his exceptionally generous commitment to the restoration and maintenance
of the Chapel building and to the life of the Congregational Church here at Roxton.
Bernard Hooker
It is with sadness that we have to record the death of Bernard Hooker, Deacon, Treasurer and Administrator of our church.
Many of you will already be aware of the immense amount of work he has done over recent decades to ensure
the chapel has remained open to all as a place of Christian worship. Not least the extensive restoration of the 1990's.
His commitment to the chapel has been second to none. Bernard enjoyed his life in the village where he has lived
since the 1960's and his chats with many residents and visitors, often while tending to the Chapel garden.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family and the members and friends of the chapel.
